Sparkle Photo Exhibition 11.00 - 4.30 pm

The Sparkle Photo Exhibition takes place each year in the foyer at MMU.

The theme for this year's exhibition will be "Relationships"

Families: Mothers, Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Pets
Professionals: Doctors, Counsellors, Hairdressers, Makeup artists, Bar tenders

Interpret it how you will and be creative with what you shoot. You may optionally like to include text to explain or interpret you photos.

As in previous years, photos should be submitted via the Transgender Image Project:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/transcomm/pool

The deadline for submission is 15th of May, at which point approximately 30 photos will be chosen from the pool to form the exhibition.

In order to get everyone's feedback on what they think of the photos in the exhibition, there will be the opportunity to vote for your favourites during Sparkle.

This year's exhibition is kindly sponsored by Repartee magazine. As an extra incentive, Repartee has offered to publish a selection of the best photos from the exhibition in their Sparkle special issue. (subject to the agreement of original photographers of course)

The Sparkle Talks 2008

As in previous years we have invited 3 speakers each to give a talk and answer questions in sessions lasting about an hour each. They are all experts in their respective fields and are ready to share knowledge and experience which will be of interest to many:

11.00 am - 12.00
Transmen at Sparkle

A chance for the F2M TG guys to meet up and discuss issues. This session will also be open to others who want to find out more about the female to male side of the TG community.
12.00 noon
Vicky Lee
Talking about role-models.
Vicky Lee gave an excellent talk at the very first Sparkle, her humour and wealth of TG experience over the years make for an interesting, fun and inspirational talk!
2.00 pm
Dr Richard Curtis
The dangers of self-prescribing. Hormones are now easily available on-line but are they worth the risk without proper medical supervision?
3.30 pm
Fay Presto
Fay Presto is Britain's top female magician and has performed before Royalty, Prime-ministers and at major events - see her web site. She transitioned many years ago now and talks openly at Sparkle about her life and the way she has lived and worked successfully in her female gender.

Sparkle Beauty

Beauty experts and professionals on hand to give help, advice and demonstrations - watch this space for more information.

SPARKLE IN THE PARK 12 noon - 5.00 pm

Sackville Gardens, which is just across from Canal Street is once again the focus of Sparkle on Saturday afternoon. Come and join the fun in the park - we have trade and info stands, refreshments and live entertainment on the main stage.

Main Stage so far:

Something totally different this year as we welcome one-hundred singers to the stage! Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus is a community choir whose reputation for being friendly and welcoming is only exceeded by the amazing quality of
their performances. They sing a wide range of songs which are guaranteed to
get your toes tapping and your thoughts racing, while (we hope) bringing a
smile to your face - and to theirs!

The first chance to meet the 2008 Miss Sparkle competitors in their day wear outfits. Come along and support your favourite girls.

We are delighted to welcome back the lovely Gloria who performed at Sparkle last year - see photo right. Gloria has been a professional performing musician for many years, toured Europe and the States with various bands and released nine solo albums as well as other collaborative recording projects. She has just released her first cd as Gloria "Living For Me" which celebrates TG life from various angles. She has also acted and written music for film and stage.

Sparkle Netball Tournament 12.00 - 3.00 pm

At The Sugdeon Sports Centre, Manchester

Once again we will be booking a netball court and our own private changing rooms.

The Northern Concord are the reigning Sparkle champions and they are keen to take-on any challengers. It would be great to have some new teams for 2008 so why not talk to your friends and put together a team, perhaps representing your local group. We don't have any teams purely from the south of England or Scotland for example - so come on girls give the Manc lasses a run for their money! Please contact Bella Jay if you would like to enter a team.

And don't worry about not knowing the rules, that's not an excuse...
There will be a training session and warm up before the first match starts.

There is space in the gallery for lots of supporters so everyone is invited to come along to watch and support their favourite team - cheer leaders are particularly welcome!
